How the Surrogate Mother is paid

An agreement between the intended parents and the surrogate mother will determine the level of compensation for the cost of surrogacy in Georgia. Our experienced legal team will assist you.

If you’re considering surrogacy treatment, you may be wondering how much surrogates get paid. Surrogate mother compensation depends on the country where the treatment is performed, and on the costs that the surrogate incurs during the gestational period.

At AtlasCARE IVF, surrogate mothers receive base compensation along with additional pay for a successful pregnancy. Below we explain in further detail the payment for surrogacy and the surrogate mother pay breakdown.

Surrogate compensation explained

Surrogacy is a complex process that requires commitment from both the intended parents and the surrogate mother. Although it involves a certain degree of altruism, the treatment requires the gestational carrier to be supported financially throughout the process in order to maintain a normal, healthy pregnancy.

For this purpose, intended parents are required to pay a base compensation to the surrogate mother and to cover the medical expenses related to the pre and post-period of childbirth. In the case of twin pregnancy, the surrogate mother is paid an additional 1,000 USD. If an ectopic pregnancy occurs, intended parents will pay the surrogate 500 USD. Compensation is also required if the surrogate has to terminate the pregnancy before the due date due to severe complications or serious health risks that require hospitalization, operation, or another kind of treatment.

Surrogate payment plan

Once you have been matched with the perfect surrogate for your AtlasCARE journey and the contracts have been signed by the intended parents and the surrogate mother under the supervision and direction of our surrogacy lawyer, a trust account will be established for the surrogate mother.

With the AtlasCARE surrogacy program in Tbilisi, Intended Parents compensate the Surrogate mother in phases — based on the terms agreed upon in the contract. These include payment of medical expenses prior to and following childbirth, a monthly allowance after the heartbeat is detected (8 months), a single payment before the day of embryo transfer, and an additional amount that gets paid within 3 days from the moment of delivery.

In case of danger or signs of spontaneous abortion, the gestational carrier is compensated according to the stated in the contract. Full payment for surrogacy is still required from the potential parent(s) in case they refuse the newborn. The surrogate will be compensated also for damages caused by improper execution of the imposed obligations under the contract from the potential parent(s), and vice versa.

Timing of surrogate payment

Surrogates receive scheduled payments so that they can focus on maintaining a healthy and successful pregnancy without having to worry about reimbursement. Moreover, we structure all of the payments in a way that allows your surrogate to plan ahead of time.

Working with a surrogacy agency, like AtlasCARE IVF Clinic and with a surrogacy lawyer onboard will help protect your interests and make sure that the payment and treatment process goes smoothly.
