Here is the entire process of surrogacy, step-by-step:

1. Contact us

The first step in the process of surrogacy in Georgia is to carefully reflect on whether this treatment option is right for you. There are many reasons to consider surrogacy as a convenient way to complete your family. Our highly-trained AtlasCARE IVF specialists will review your medical history and will discuss adequate treatment options based on your circumstances.

Our  AtlasCAREsurrogate mothers have passed all the necessary medical and psychological evaluations and procedures and are well-prepared for pregnancy, labor, and carrying a baby.

2. Prepare for Surrogacy in Georgia

Once you have decided to commit to surrogacy, you can start preparing yourself for the journey ahead. Gestational surrogacy allows you to have a child that is not biologically related to the surrogate mother. The embryo is created using an egg from the intended mother (or a donor) and sperm from the intended father (or a donor) via in vitro fertilization (IVF). Once the egg is fertilized, the embryo is transferred to the gestational carrier on day three or day five following egg retrieval.

Once you have confirmed the details for surrogacy and have finished all legalities together with our AtlasCARE attorney, you will start the screening process. After you pass the fertility testing stage, you will be ready to start the treatment.

3. Find a Surrogate Mother in Georgia

One of the most important steps in the surrogacy process is finding the right surrogate mother for you and your family. When intended parents begin working with the AtlasCARE IVF Clinic & Agency, our surrogacy specialists will help you to develop an appropriate surrogacy plan and find the right surrogate mother in Georgia for you.

You will be granted access to our Surrogate Mother database. After Phase 1 payment is arranged, our medical team will review multiple profiles of Surrogate Mothers during specific days of their menstrual cycle. The AtlasCARE IVF doctor will perform various tests and scans and choose the candidate with the best uterus. The physical features of the gestational carrier are not important — the living conditions, test results, health, uterus and commitment are far more important to us.

When the ideal candidate is selected, we will inform you about her details and if you agree, we can proceed with the treatment process. If you have specific requirements about your surrogate, please inform us before the selection and we can make the matching accordingly.

5. Surrogacy Laws in Georgia

Once the surrogate and intended parents have decided to move forward together, they will need to sign an official surrogacy contract. Each party will have their legal rights and interests represented and protected in the contract.

Our AtlasCARE attorney will meet with the surrogate mother to discuss all legal aspects of surrogacy — from compensation to possible risks. Our attorney will meet with the intended parents as well to discuss their legal rights and the compensation to the surrogate mother.

6. Starting IVF treatment in Georgia

After the details have been set up, both parties will begin medical procedures to prepare for IVF, including ovarian stimulation, egg retrieval, fertilization and embryo transfer. The intended mother (or egg donor) will be given medications to stimulate her ovaries to develop multiple eggs.

When the eggs are ready, she will undergo an egg retrieval procedure at our fertility clinic in Tbilisi (Georgia). The eggs are then fertilized using sperm from the intended father (or a donor) to create an embryo. The embryos are incubated for 3 to 5 days and are assessed for quality. On day three or day five, the best embryo(s) will be transferred to the surrogate.

The surrogate will be prescribed special medications to prepare her uterus for a successful embryo transfer. The transfer is a short and painless procedure that does not require anesthesia.

Once a pregnancy test has been carried out and a heartbeat has been confirmed, the surrogate will start receiving monthly allowance as agreed upon in the contract. Regular blood tests and ultrasounds will be carried out to ensure a successful pregnancy and a healthy baby. This will provide the intended parents with valuable information about the progress of their baby and the surrogate mother’s state.

7. Welcome the New Baby!

The birth of your baby will be the happiest moment in the surrogacy process and a life-changing event for the intended parents.

After the baby is born and the surrogate is discharged from the hospital, we can begin the final steps of your AtlasCARE journey. Our lawyer will assist you with the application for a birth certificate. A birth certificate will be granted by the House of Justice within 2 to 5 working days (subject to change). The length of the stay after your child’s birth depends on your nationality or the passport you hold. Once intended parents have received their passport from the embassy, the new family can return home.
